NJ’s New Health Care Law Will Keep New Jersians from Losing Health Insurance, Facing Higher Premiums

Washington, DC – In response to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signing a new bill into law that reinstates the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) individual responsibility provision in the state, Health Care for America Now Co-Directors Ethan Rome and Margarida Jorge released the following statement:

“The New Jersey law is the latest example of how Americans are rising up and calling for leaders to protect their health care from President Trump’s sabotage. Trump and his Republican allies have done everything they can to dismantle our health care system piece by piece and as a result of their health care repeals in the tax law, premiums and uninsured rates are on the rise. But across the country, people are standing up and fighting back to protect their health care. As long as the GOP continues its war on health care, more Americans will stand up to defend affordable health care from political attacks.”

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is the national grassroots coalition that ran a $60 million five-and-a-half year campaign from 2008-2013 to pass, protect, and promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protect Medicare and Medicaid. HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans’ all-out effort to take away America’s health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
