HEROES Act Will Provide Crucial Funding for States’ Budgets, Relief for Working Families

Washington, DC – In response to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s release of the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act (HEROES Act), Health Care for America Now Executive Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:

“Speaker Pelosi’s HEROES Act represents the kind of comprehensive support that state and local governments, small businesses and families need right now as COVID-19 continues to batter the nation. It provides desperately needed funding for states and localities to prevent job cuts in education, healthcare and public safety and to meet increased demand for basic services during this historical economic and health crisis. The bill goes a long way toward addressing the immediate needs facing people in distress because of COVID and lays the groundwork for quicker recovery from the tremendous economic impact of the pandemic.

“Now it’s time for Senate Majority Leader McConnell to stop stalling and follow Speaker Pelosi’s lead by taking action to address the urgent needs of his own constituents and millions of Americans who are suffering with COVID, at risk of getting sick and facing tremendous economic strain with no place to turn. COVID doesn’t discriminate based on political party or state — anyone can get sick and, as the mounting death toll suggests, everyone faces risk from this common threat. Senator McConnell and President Trump should put aside partisan politics and pass this bill as soon as possible to provide immediate help to families across the country struggling to protect their health and keep a roof over their heads. Congress must pass the HEROES Act now.”

HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans’ all-out effort to take away America’s health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
