Budget proposal would expand health care access and ensure the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes

WASHINGTON — Following the Senate’s passage of a $3.5 trillion budget proposal on Wednesday morning, Health Care for America Now Executive Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:

“The Senate’s budget reconciliation proposal sends a strong signal that lawmakers are prioritizing the needs of working families and seniors, who are struggling with affordability, high drug prices and unfair lack of access to basic coverage. The resolution would lower prescription drug costs and close the Medicaid coverage gap that has left millions uninsured, provisions that are especially important as communities nationwide continue to struggle with the health and economic impact of the COVID-19 Delta Variant. Crucially, the proposal also rewards work over wealth by ensuring wealthy individuals and corporations will finally pay their fair share of taxes so that everyone gets an opportunity for mobility, economic security and a better future.

“We urge the House to approve this budget resolution as soon as possible so that Congress can move quickly to make the investments we need to build our economy back better for everyone.”
