Trump’s Proposed Spending Cuts Would Target Health Care, Foreshadow Deeper Cuts to Come

After a $1.4 Trillion Tax Giveaway to Wall Street Corporations and the Very Wealthy, President Trump and GOP Congress Seek to Cut Health Care for Children and Our Most Vulnerable

Washington, DC – In response to President Trump’s proposed $15 billion spending cut package, Health Care for America Now Co-Directors Ethan Rome and Margarida Jorge released the following statement:

“Forcing low-income families and children to pay for tax breaks for the wealthiest one percent and big corporations is unconscionable. President Trump’s proposal to cut health care and programs like the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is wrong. After wasting $1.4 trillion on a massive tax giveaway to those who need it the least, President Trump is now going after cuts to programs that help working families, seniors, people with disabilities and kids. This is step one in their draconian plan. First, Trump and Republicans will try to rescind funding from programs that help low-income families ensure their kids get the health care they need. Next, they will seek much more severe cuts to additional critical programs that America’s working families depend on.

“We’ve seen this playbook before and working families cannot afford this one-two punch from the administration and Congressional Republicans. Americans across the country will make it clear to members of Congress in November that they cannot ask working families, children and seniors to pay for tax cuts for Wall Street corporations and millionaires and billionaires.”

HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans’ all-out effort to take away America’s health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
