Democrats in Wisconsin are celebrating 12 years since the signing of the Affordable Care Act, and saying they still hope to expand access to health care under that law.

In La Crosse, Congressman Ron Kind and State Senator Brad Pfaff met with reporters, and Kind said that many members of Congress, including Senator Ron Johnson, are still trying to repeal the act known as Obamacare.

“We need to get the state legislature in Wisconsin to pass the expansion of Badgercare, in order to deal with those individuals falling through the gap still, because we’re just one of a handful of states now in the country that’s refused to expand Badgercare or Medicaid coverage,” said Kind.

Kind and Pfaff were joined by Sarah, an Eau Claire woman who has diabetes, and who worries that the cost of her insulin will become too high to afford if she loses ACA coverage after age 26.

“If I were to try and pay for one month of diabetic supplies without my insulin, it would cost me one thousand, 604 dollars, and 21 cents,” says Sarah.

Senator Pfaff spoke about his son developing diabetes a few years ago. “He was thirsty, he was tired, he was laggard, kept losing weight, my wife and I didn’t know what was happening, ” says Pfaff. “And finally he came to me and said, Dad, I can’t see, I’m losing my sight.” His son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

Pfaff argues that the ACA and the cost of medicine has become a partisan political issue for “no good reason.”

Just a note that the ACA only passed because Obama lied that you could keep your doctor..it was voted the biggest lie of the year, and Russ Feingold lost his job because he voted for ACA.
