My husband who is self employed had been self insured for several years when we married and I was able to add him to our insurance. A year later I left my job and we looked for an affordable health care plan that could cover both of us. What we found was that none of the plans we could buy in to would cover the medications he was currently on, and had been on when he had a private plan in the past. They would also not cover anything related to the condition he was taking medication for. That was not going to work for us. We paid through the nose for COBRA until I was able to find a new position and renew coverage through my employer. I had started a small business of my own, but with out appropriate medical coverage there was no way I could continue. I like the job I have but I still have dreams of getting my business going again. However I now take medicaiotn for a similar condition to my husband's. We just can't afford to go uncovered.
