I recently lost my HMO plan when my employer went bankrupt after 20 years of loyal service. Not only did I lose all my severance accrued, I was left with three months of back wages owed and a lapsed health insurance. My employer failed to notify its workers that our insurance premiums had not been paid for several months before we discovered it. Now the medical bills are being kicked back to me at the uninsured rate and I cannot afford to buy any health insurance now that I am unemployed. The deductibles are astronomical and the monthly is more than half of I receive from unemployment checks. Moreover, I am 62 years old and don't qualify for medicare. Should something happen to me, I'm afraid I will lose my one bedroom condo unit and all my life savings. This is probably just one of many modern American stories. The moral is, "Don't allow your government to force you into a lifetime of indentured servitude to the corporate health industry."
