Living near the Canadian border, many U.S. citizens in my area travel to Canada for more affordable health care.
I have a friend in Colorado who flew to Mexico for dental care. Even with the cost of the flight, room and food, it was considerably less expensive to have the work done in Mexico than in the U.S.
I have had two major surgeries. Both times I was uninsured. As my income is quite low, the state took care of all surgery related expenses, a blessing, indeed!
I currently have health insurance from NY state, Healthy Family Plus. It is somewhat affordable ($160 a month) but does put a strain on my budget ($20k annual income).
I would love to see the U.S. with a system like Canada's or France's where everyone receives excellent health care and physicians receive excellent salaries.
Seems like a win/win situation to me.
When we get past greed, everyone benefits.
