My father died from colon cancer that had metastasized. When my sister's doctor heard of this, he recommended she have a colonoscopy, though she wasn't quite 50 yet. She had one, they found a polyp and removed it. When I heard of that, I had a colonoscopy as well, they found a polyp and removed it. My younger brother had no insurance and never went in for a colonoscopy. He now has colon cancer that has metastasized and has been undergoing treatment for 5 years. He almost didn't make it to his 50th birthday. Had he had insurance, he probably would not be struggling with a colostomy bag and undergoing chemo every few months.
