I have asthma and when I did not have health insurance, I was turned away from an asthma specilist's RECEPTIONIST as I STOOD INFRONT OF HER BENT OVER AND GASPING FOR OXEGEN. (She urned me away because I did not have health insurance.) I don't know if I would have lived or not. However, the specialist in the next office overheard her turning me away and saw my condition and ordered the receptionist to get me into his private office. He reached into his desk drawer and took out a needle and gave me a shot and I immediately was able to breath without struggling. I was in my 20's and I am now 58 years old. Eventually I got insurance with a job and am now on a cortozone inhalor and can breath without agony. I shall never forget that day that I was almost sent away without help because I did not have health insurance. Thank God the specialist overheard the conversation and saw my condition and decided to help me even though I didn't have health insurance. How many others are not that fortunate and die? Every time I think of that time, it makes me shudder. What kind of country are we when we send our dying to the grave because they don't have health insurance?
