My daughter has just graduated from college. She strained her back in dance class and has been undergoing physical therapy. She has been able to cut back on the therapy, but we don't know when she will be done. She also needs work done on her knee that required ACL surgery 4 years ago. In September, she will begin a 4-month internship (without pay or benefits) that is required before she can even begin to apply for jobs in her selected field. So, she needs to purchase her own health insurance. As of this date, we have not been able to find an individual insurance plan for her. Most won't take her at all, the others will take her on for future problems, but none of them will cover the pre-existing conditions. So, she will have to stay on our plan under the COBRA law and pay $287 per month with a $2,500 deductible. This will only be good for 18 months, at which time we hope she finds a full-time job with benefits. Also, since she will be off my plan in October and will have to start over with the $2,500 deductible for this year yet. Since she doesn't have any money saved after 4 years of college, her father and I will have to pay for her insurance.
