Today I just signed a payroll authorization to have additional $14.75 taken out of my paycheck to cover another increase in the cost of medical coverage offered by my employer. The company is changing carriers again from United Heathcare back to Blue Cross, telling us that UHC was going up 15% this year and we are getting a better "deal" with BCBS. Who do we believe? I am paying $647.00 per month to cover myself and my spouse(who is a smoker). We are both over 50, we have a mortage, little savings, and my spouse has not worked in a year due to a job related injury(don't evern get me started on workman's compensation, which is another total mess) Why isn't anyone talking about that area of the heathcare system? I think the the thing that gets me most upset is the cost of prescription drugs and how the insurance companies seem to have this power to decide what drugs you can get not based on what your doctor says you need, but what drugs they put on their LIST! Drug production to my understanding is cheep. Why should I have to pay $5.00 for a pill that cost five cents to produce?
