Kim

Orland, ME

I was born with Asthma and severe allergies. I have always had health care costs on a monthly basis. My sister was born healthy and never had to worry about her health. I strongly believe the reason I live paycheck-to-paycheck, have no savings, and can't afford to buy a house or even pay my student loans back, is the high cost of meeting my medical needs. I now have more medical problems and the costs just keep going up and I go into further debt, and feel like I am not a productive member of society. On the other hand, my sister owns a beautiful home, has savings, and lives a nice lifestyle. I am sure that the main difference is my medical expenses. I think that is so unfair, because my practically poverty lifestyle is not caused by lack of desire or motivation or education (I have a doctorate)-rather it is due to circumstances this country has created so that my basic needs are unmet- unless I stay at poverty level.
