Covenant Hospice just downsized and I was a victim. Now I am losing my health insurance after losing my job. When you lose your job you are even less able to afford to pay for it on your own. Health insurance should NEVER be tied to your job. For one thing, companies cannot afford to pay for it anymore, either, so they are doing everything they can to eliminate covering their employees (e.g., hire part-time staff or contracted out employees). There are millions of us falling through the cracks due to no fault of our own. If you are self-employed, you cannot afford it. If you work for a small company, they do not provide it. My son has been working for contractors and they do not provide health insurance. It is absurd that we are subjected to this in the United States of America. This nation has turned its back on its working class citizens. This nation has gone 3rd World. It's madness!
