DANIEL

SAN FRANCISCO, CA

i became disabled. it took 2 years to acquire social security benefits. COBRA ended six months after the onset of my disability. MediCal in California had me listed with a $600.00 a month deductible before their benefits would start. My meds at that time cost $1,200 per month. I had no means to pay rent, food, meds and utilities. luckily i have generous parents who helped with funds coming from their own social security benefits from retirement. there is no help for people who are ill to fight through the confrontational system we have. Now the governor of California says he is going to have people like me reapply every three months. if your mail misses the deadline you are thrown off the Medical roles. I guess you will have to go through the confrontational system again to try to get your benefits. it seems like torture to live day by day wondering when the next barrier will be placed in front of you and the thought as to whether you will be able to continue your coverage. the good news is MediCal is barganing with the drug companies and has reduced the cost of my medications. the part D of Medicare has helped significantly till the donut hole hits. At least it is something.
