In the early morning of January 7th, 1997, I was crossing the street when I was hit by a drunk hit-and-run driver (there was a cab that had stopped for me and he ran her off the road). I got a closed head injury, and I was in a coma for almost 3 months, and it left me unable to speak (I suffer from disartria). I spent another year after that in hospitals, and I cannot work any more. I get SSDI and I'm on Medicare. Anyway, I have a boyfriend and he's self-employed and he works for the school system in his area, driving the kids around. HE doesn't have health insurance, and has to take a lot of medication for his diabeties and high blood pressure. That's crazy that he has to pay such high amounts!
