My son and daughter-in-law live in Canada. They just had a baby boy a month ago, and I went up to visit.
They said the prenatal care was excellent. Two days after the baby came home, a visiting nurse came to the house and sat down for AN HOUR with my daughter-in-law and the baby and gave him an exam, answered questions, made sure the breast-feeding was going well, etc. She came back the next week for a second visit.
Wow. I was so impressed.
My daughter-in-law gets 9 months paid maternity leave. My son gets 6 weeks paid paternity leave. The Canadian government gives them a supplemental payment of $300 a month. When my daughter-in-law goes back to work, she'll get daycare for $7 a day.
This seems like a much better way for the government to spend its money than killing people in Iraq.
