Ny daughter is working at Starbucks because they have healthcare coverage for part-time employees. She just graduated from college and has been offered a full-time job in another city in her field. She is reluctant to take it, as her health coverage with that firm does not start for 3 months. She has a chronic condition that is treatable, but medications without coverage would cost her over $700 per month for the 3 months she is not covered. She cannot afford that and is considering staying here in a job that is not in her field solely so that she can continue to have health coverage.
The system is broken - and needs fixing. We should not have to pay for health care in the way that we do now. If you buy any product or service made in the US, you are paying for the healthcare of the workers behind that product or service. In other countries, that is not the case. If the US has the best health care options availble, then certainly these should be made available to all of this great countries citizens and should be provided though our tax contributions.
