My husband and a partner own a small machine shop where they continue to pay the entire cost of health insurance for eight employees, plus secondary insurance for a retired owner. Each year the price goes up and the dedutibles get higher. Their present plan has a $2500 deductible and costs the company over $125,000 per year. For a company whose annual sales are usually between $1 and $2 million, health care costs have wiped out all profits several times. They are a well-established business (50 years), and can whether a few bad years, but how can a new business survive and still provide health care for their employees?
