Katherine

Midlothian, VA

We haven't had health insurance in a year and a half. My husband was laid off over 2 years ago and we paid for COBRA for about 6 or 8 months because I had to have kidney surgery and physical therapy, but eventually we ran out of savings and had to stop. I am disabled and work part-time, my husband is a disabled veteran (U.S. Army, 5th Special Forces), our 18 year old son has never been able to attend school due to disability. Now, we get health care through the emergency room at the local hospital, and my husband does get care through the VA hospital. Our teeth are falling apart, our son is not able to be well, I can't find new treatments for us... it's pretty awful. We're behind on the rent, the utilities, the bills in general... We make too little to make it today, and too much to qualify for assistance.
