My husband was diaganiosed with multiple sclersosis in 1997. He was 35 years old. He continued to work for 11 years, in April 2008 he was unable to work. He is now 46 years old. He is going to be recieving social security disibility, but has to wait 2 years for medicaid. His company offered us, insurance through cobra it would be 1300.00 for him, myself and our son. He will recieve 1500.00 from social security which would leave him 200.00 a month to live on. We signed up for other programs threw the goverment and was denied. Called Blue Cross Blue shield, they said they can't cover anybody with this condition. They told me to call a company called hip. after telling them his condition they also said there is nothing they could do for him. They gave me a number for the unisured resource center. 1-800-234-1317. The refered me to hip. When I said I already tried them they said they couldn't help us. It ended up being a lot of wasted time. I feel it is a shame that they can turn away people that need it the most. Then there are other companys that are so expensive you can't afford to pay the premiums. It's bad enough they can't find a cure for his illness to help him out . He shouldn't have to worry about paying for there research to. I think the goverment is kinda sending out the wrong message. If you work hard in your life and a disability happens . You will have to many assets to help your family. If you didn't work that hard or to long then you will get everything they have to offer . Right away with no worries. I think the goverment sends out the message for teenage girls to get pregant and the goverment will give you medical, money, food stamps, some low or free housing, Wic program which pays for all your babys food. welfare pays for your college and your babysitter. Or, some will choose to work a little and get there babysitters paid for. For, the young adults that do make the right choices in life. Alot of these people get kicked off there familys insurance and there insurance through there part time jobs is to expensive or not even offered. Or they are between jobs. They work hard to pay for there college and have to start there begining to the world in debt. They shouldn't have to go without health care. I believe that welfare programs need to stop giving so much to people making bad choices. And start making life easier for those that do make good choices. Our Veterans and people with disabilities and the hard working people of the United states should have the best health care coverage at the free rates. Welfare should be a one year helper not a lifestyle. You could find alot of money for health care in wasted spending progrms.
