I have been fighting the healthcare wars since 1990. As a patient, I have generally been covered by preferred care, managed care, and COBRA.
I have been forced to wait out "pre-existing condition" clauses, been required to pay 100% of a bill for "out of network" charges, and seen my co-pays, co-insurance, and general out of pocket costs skyrocket. Currently, my wrath is directed towards the requirement to seek "prior authorization" for medical services and prescription medications, when a doctor's order or a prescription should, and in fact, once did suffice as all the authorization that was needed.
I am tired of surrendering the power of my healthcare 100% to insurance companies. I do not believe the conservative argument that consumer choices and free ennterprise prevent the current system from failing. These arguments are part of a propaganda machine to empower the insurcance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and their lobbyists.
The removal of employer-based insurance, to be replaced with tax credits, will not shore-up the current failing system.
