John “Hai”

Lincoln, NE

I've been an advocate for Universal Healthcare for years (single-payer / HR 676; even while still privileged to have good insurance through my job. I am a folk musician/singer/songwriter; I wrote many songs in concern for healthcare crisis.

Nov 2006 I got layed off from job; was able to keep cobra at same thing I was paying, till temporary lay off was turned into a permanent lay off.

I took a job with Sears; got some temporary insurance with them, turned into a false security, left us owing $13K. Was finally going to be restored to having Blue Cross Blue Shield; but my job didn't last long enough.

The losing a job alone is a terrible blow; even if we manage not to get sick without medical insurance. For getting another job I am at a competitive disadvantage in this narrowed (recession days) job market, because I have Aspergers Syndrome (a mild form of autism)plus I am in my 50's. I could still compete for a job when they were plentiful and there were good jobs to be had.

Recently I have been writing essays; Most recent is "Why I Believe Christians Should Call for Healthcare Reforms." I reacted to what I see as a paradox, how Christians are generally against reforms, especially single-payer. I don't see how any genuinely born-again Christian can make a conscious decision that they know will cut their brothers in Christ out. I'm not an outsider pointing out how Christians should be; I am a Born-Again Christian.

I will permit readers to write me, healthmusic@windstream.net. I would like to be a part of getting more movements going on for fixing our healthcare crisis; including more music performances.

My Old Friend Martin Said; "Of All The Forms of Inequality, Injustice in Health Care is the Most Shocking and Inhumane." Affordable Healthcare is a RIGHT! Let Us Claim it!!! Insurance industry are out for their bottom line; they don't care about you.
