I am 54 years old, and a political moderate. I have worked my whole life, usually at more than one job. My wife has done the same. We have no children, thankfully. My longtime technical job recently moved to Chicago, and I am now unemployed. The company was good enough to give me two months' severance, but only one month of paid medical insurance. I have priced private insurance, and am not willing to pay the huge premiums charged for even high deductible/low coverage plans. I have money in the bank and will use it, if necessary, to pay a bankruptcy attorney. We own our home outright, and it is going to remain that way. That is my beef with the political and economic right wing. The left is another. I have watched as my hard-earned income is used to pay for free medical insurance(?) for people whose only contribution is getting knocked up out of wedlock. More of my money is used to cover people who can get a doctor to proclaim them "disabled". I know many of these people deserve the coverage, but I know personally some who do not. To make the system fair, take the right to medical coverage out of the hands of unreliable corporations and insurance companies, and give working people the same right to government coverage as those on welfare and disability. I can't imagine that being any more expensive than paying for my own insurance and paying taxes to cover millions of others at the same time.
