Even though I would consider my family's health coverage to be good, we still struggle. Each year the premiums go up more than our income. Each year, less is covered instead of more.

Currently, we are fighting with the insurace company to get my son to doctors that can help him with his chronic health issues. The amount of stress that the "fight" causes is effecting all of us. Every time I get my hopes up that we will be able to see doctors that will be able to help my son, some new problem arises. We have been fighting for nearly two months after the visits were "approved." We were told, "Sure you can see the doctor, but we won't cover it." after we had already recieved an approval letter.

We are told to be educated consumers of health care. We are asked to do our research, and try to avoid costly procedures that are not needed. This is exatly what my family tries to do. But instead of being appreciated for my knowledge and seen as an important person in the decision making process, most doctors are condescending and don't want me asking questions. They want me to just be a "good" patient and take the pills they write a script for and be on my way. After all, I really don't need to know what they are for or if there are other treatment options.
