I am self employed, and was covered by my husband's health plan. He retired, and I was able to go on Cobra for 18 months (which is up 9/1/08). I was paying $350/month with Cobra. I got a new quote with the same company, for insurance which is not even as good, and the "cheapest" plan is over $700/month. Therefore, I will now be among the people who are NOT insured. This should NOT be allowed in this country. I am hoping I will be able to get insurance for hospitalization at least, or we will be wiped out if I get sick!! This is disgusting - I have worked all my life, and to not be able to afford insurance at this stage in my life (57) is very frightening!
