I have decent health care coverage for myself through my job, a job I hang on to in large part because I'm afraid of ending up without health care benefits. However, I have an adult son, age 22, who works at whatever job he can find until he can afford to go to college (as a single parent, I can't afford to pay for his college education, plus I am still paying off my own student loans, and he doesn't qualify for any worthwhile financial aid until he's considered an "adult" at I believe age 24). He does not have health insurance. He does have some medical needs. I end up paying for his health care needs, which I cannot afford to do, but allowing him to go without the medication he needs is unthinkable. Even so, his health care is extremely inadequate. I feel guilty having full coverage for myself while someone I care about goes without. What a ridiculous system!
