I had polio when I was seven. When I went to get health insurance privately in my twenties I was told that I would be covered everywhere except for my left leg, which is where the effects of having had polio were the most obvious.
Fortunately I have been able to be covered under group policies since then. My husband who is younger than I am wants to become a private consultant and can't for another three years until I am eligible for Medicare. Buying private coverage for me would place me in the same position as having only partial coverage as well as the fact that now I need a brace, and have a few more problems.
