My daughter has Crohns disease and her husband is self-employed. They have 2 children prone to allergies. If she works, she cannot afford daycare. If she doesnot work, private insurance costs $1000 a month with a $5000 co-pay. This minumum coverage has large co-pays on medication as well. They take money from their home line of equity to pay for minor surgery(husband had severe hemmoroids) out-patient costing $2000.
