Washington, DC –Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – released a new television ad today thanking Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) for helping lead the way on behalf of Chairman Edward Kennedy (D-MA) toward achieving comprehensive health care reform in 2009. At the same time, the campaign has also released the following statement in support of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee’s passing of historic health reform legislation this morning:
Richard Kirsch, National Campaign Manager, Health Care for America Now:
“We’re now making history, and today, we are one big step closer to guaranteeing quality, affordable health care for all this year. The HELP bill – which passed with unanimous Democratic support – will make sure health care coverage is more affordable for families and businesses.
No longer will insurance companies be able to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions, and no longer will people feel like they have nowhere to turn when they need health care the most.
The HELP bill lets people keep what they have if they want but also opens up a new health exchange with options, including the choice of a new public health insurance plan which will be essential in lowering costs, helping to cover everyone, and keeping the insurance companies honest.
And with shared responsibility between individuals, employers, and government, health care can and will be more affordable to everyone in America.”
